ALBUM OF THE WEEK: The best of the week. Hands down, no questions asked, its good shit.

ARCTIC MONKEYS: SUCK IT AND SEE

Made in the dark, in the inexistent hitaus between Humbug and the Alex Turner Submarine EP, I’m talking about the new Arctic Monkeys album entitled Suck It and See, a name that to me seems like a very clear message for everyone who thought these kids were done writing great music. Their newest production is spearheaded by their longtime collaborator James Ford (who also produced their excellent debut album and their follow up Favorite Worst Nightmare) and the change between Josh Home’s production and Ford’s is almost palpable; I’m not saying that Humbug was a bad record but it was certainly their hardest to “sell” the indie scene and mainstream alike, in my opinion Humbug was a great experiment and change of pace for Alex Turner and co. but it is here in Suck It and See that they prove everyone wrong and bring a record that combines all of their past and influences to fruition. James Ford is a man that saw the band create the vast majority of their “hits” and was instrumental in the making of the band’s peculiar Sheffield sound and like all great “coaches”, James Ford brings out the best of the band’s newfound sound and makes it dance with their early work to create a fantastic record in the form of Suck It and See.
The bulk of the record is a combination of the succesful “power ballads” that appeared in their debut album and contienued to pop up in the follow ups, including Cornerstone in Humbug, here Turner even threw in a reworked (and pretty amazing) version of his Submarine EP track Piledriver Waltz among other great pieces like the titular track Suck It and See which is essentially the new himn for any band that enjoyed great fame and like an old flame was eventually let go for new hip lovers only to comeback better and stronger than before.
This is probably my cheesiest review but the album was so good I had to write it this way, without any further ado, the highlights of the album (even though most of it is brilliant) are: Piledriver Waltz, Reckless Serenade, Library Pictures, Brick by Brick (their first single off this album) and Don’t Sit Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair (their most recent single). Again, the album as a whole is excellent and it’s really worth listening completely, the Arctic Monkeys are back, maybe Suck It And See will criticize their effort to regain some of their trademark sound but I can safely say that Suck It and See is a huge step forward for the band’s evolution as it combines all of their past work in one of the soon-to-be best albums of 2011.
P.D: The sampler of this week’s best album is Reckless Serenade, in my opinion a track that represents the evolution in sound on Suck It and See alongside the fast paced sounds of Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not, Favorite Worst Nightmare and Humbug, in other words, this track summarizes the Arctic Monkey’s career in music so far in a spectacular way, enjoy!

ALBUM OF THE WEEK: The best of the week. Hands down, no questions asked, its good shit.

Two years in the making, the new album of Friendly Fires is out. The electro-pop band is back and with a brand new all-awesome record that brings out their 80’s influences alongside some brand new tricks. The name of the new LP is PALA and the whole thing is composed in the same light as their previous single Kiss Of Life, using african based percusions with synths that have both eclectic and energetic vibes among their tracks.

The highlights of the album are the first single Live Those Days Tonight, Hawaiian Air, True Love and the sample I chose for this entry, the amazing Chimes.

Worth the wait, buy and/or download. Give it a listen, it’s fantastic and definite pick of the week.

This Week: NINE TYPES OF LIGHT by TV ON THE RADIO
TV on the Radio is an American art rock band formed in 2001 in Brooklyn, New York, whose music spans numerous diverse genres, from post-punk to electro and free jazz to soul music.
Well this is a great album. The last time I checked, TV On The Radio had just created a fantastic album entitled Dear Science, it rocked the indie scene’s brains out and made it to a couple of “best of the best” lists of the year. Good times. After a long wait we finally get a taste of the brand new album, this time its called “Nine Types of Light”, a very solid and enjoyable piece of music that has classic TV On The Radio tones like the ones present in “Will Do” (one of my favorites) and more unique and energetic aproaches like “Caffeinated Consciousness” and “Forgotten” which reminds of both early work of the band and some dubstep references. The album is a joy ride and should be treated as one, I highly recommend it for both fans and newcomers, get it now kids, while its hot.

ALBUM OF THE WEEK: Childish Gambino - EP

Donald McKinley Glover  is an American actor, writer, comedian, musician, and rapper. He creates music under the name Childish Gambino.

The newest Childish Gambino release is da bomb, filled with energetic/eclectic beats and some killer spit by Don Glover himself, “EP” is a fresh and pretty fantastic oportunity to enter the Childish Gambino world for those of you who haven’t heard his stuff yet and also one hell of an album for existing fans. I dig the whole album but my favorite tracks were Freaks and GeeksBe Alone and My Shine. I highly recommend downloading it, oh yeah Don Glover released this for free, run along to his blog now, you reaaaallly want this on your iPod, trust me.

My favorite tracks were: Satellite, DNA and You Don’t Own The Road. Blood Pressures is out April 1, 2011.
Tracklist:
“Future Starts Slow”
 ”Satellite”
“Heart Is a Beating Drum”
“Nail in My Coffin” .”Wild Charms”
“DNA”
 ”Baby Says”
“The Last Goodbye”
“Damned If She Do”
“You Don’t Own the Road”
“Pots and Pans”
